Reflexology
I have over 15 years of nursing experience covering a wide variety of nursing and clinical specialities. This has equipped me to develop skills as a competent, caring practitioner whilst appreciating the importance of holistic care and support.
I have personally experienced the benefits of reflexology and have been amazed at how the reflex areas in the feet correspond to different parts of the body. My ailment was pinpointed almost immediately during treatment, without previous disclosure or any visible signs being apparent.
This introductory experience has led me to research the therapy further, opening up a whole new way of treating / preventing illness, whilst also being able to give more time to each client in order for them to achieve improved health and homeostasis.
My training was conducted with the International Institute of Reflexology, an accredited 1 year Diploma course, recognised by Professional Bodies including the Reflexology Forum and the Association of Reflexology.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a specific massage technique used on defined reflex points on the hands or feet, to help heal the whole person and not just the prevailing symptoms.
The treatment induces a state of deep relaxation and has proved beneficial for most stress related conditions.
It is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a range of acute and chronic conditions.
It can be used to help restore and maintain homeostasis, encouraging the body to work effectively to aid healing.
Reflexology is one of the oldest forms of complementary therapy, originating from the ancient Egyptians and Chinese.
Reflexology can be used to complement/ enhance standard medical treatments.
As a Registered Reflexology Practitioner and nurse, I am experienced in treating illness and stress related health problems
I have found Reflexology to be particularly helpful in the following areas:-
- Musculoskeletal pain (back, neck, shoulder, pelvic, sciatic)
- High blood pressure
- Asthma/ respiratory illness
- Headaches/ migraine
- Sinus problems
- Bowel disorders
- Menstrual problems/ PMS/ Menopause
- Insomnia
- Poor circulation/ lymph drainage
- Pre-op & post-op recovery
- Care of the terminally ill
- De-toxifying
- De-stress and Re-vitalising energy
What happens during a treatment
I will take a detailed medical history during your 1st consultation to enable me to tailor treatment specifically to your requirements and health needs.
On removing your footwear, you will be seated in a comfortable reclining chair to commence treatment. Reflexology is a calming, relaxing experience and certainly does not tickle, although sensitivity does vary from person to person.
After a treatment, there may be a temporary reaction as the body readjusts. This could be a feeling of well-being, relaxation, lethargy or occasionally a sensation of being ‘off-colour’. This is short lived and is simply part of the healing process.
Often benefits are felt after just one treatment, though a series of treatments may be needed to significantly improve a condition.
